Mycofix®
Naturally ahead in mycotoxin risk management
The Mycofix® product line from BIOMIN is a range of specially developed feed additives that protect animal health by deactivating mycotoxins found in contaminated feed.
Mode of action
Its modular system consists of three strategies:
- Adsorption – Elimination of toxins
Adsorbable mycotoxins, like aflatoxins or ergot alkaloids, are deactivated due to their specific fixation to a premium blend of adsorbing components in Mycofix®. As adsorbents selectively bind and immobilize mycotoxins in the gastrointestinal tract of animals, toxin bioavailability is greatly reduced.
- Biotransformation – Elimination of toxicity
Specific enzymes, provided by patented biological components in Mycofix® eliminate the toxicity of trichothecenes, zearalenone and ochratoxin A by changing their toxic structures. Such “biotransformation” leads to non-toxic, environmentally safe metabolites.
- Bioprotection – Elimination of toxic effects
Mycofix® consists of a blend of scientifically based, carefully selected plant and algae extracts that are able to eliminate toxin-related effects by supporting the immune system, reducing the risk of inflammation and protecting against liver damage.
Mycofix® – More protective. Proven!
In several experiments involving endotoxin poisoning, the effectiveness of the Mycofix® product line in [myco]toxins control and management was once again proven.
Mycofix® was found to promote the adsorption of endotoxins and positively counters the overall inflammatory effects of these substances. The latter is achieved by a correct selection of biological constituents (yeasts), plant and algae extracts which work in an harmonious way to increase the production of anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL-10) and to promote the activity of macrophages whilst decreasing the production of the pro-inflammatory ones (IL-6 and TNFα).
Main benefits
Complete solution to mycotoxin related problems:
- Reduces damage to the liver and intestinal tract membrane caused by the presence of mycotoxins in feed.
- Reduces mycotoxin related fertility problems.
- Reduces lesions and inflammations caused by trichothecenes.
- Stimulates the immune system to compensate for the suppression caused by various mycotoxins.
Product
The Mycofix® product line incorporates several different products which cater to specific animal groups and types of mycotoxins present.
References
- Mycofix® successfully lowers non-conception rate, suppression of feed intake, rearing losses and organ infections of the respiratory tract, kidney, urinary tract and liver. It also reduces the morphological changes of uteri and ovaries in sows fed DON- and ZON-contaminated diets. Mycofix® was found to increase fertility among sows. (Freie Universtität Berlin, Germany)
- Mycofix® provides a complete toxic sparing effect using different criteria including growth performance, serum biochemistry parameters, alveolar macrophagesactivities, antibody titers, cytokines secretion profile and histopathological observations. These findings suggest that levels below the critical value of DON and ZON for farm animals still have some adverse and toxic effects on pigs. (National I-Lan University, Taiwan)
- Addition of Mycofix® to mycotoxin-contaminated diets improves egg production, egg weight and egg mass; total cholesterol and HDL/Total C ratio in serum; and vitamin A content in the liver. (Konkuk University, Korea)
- Addition of Mycofix® to broiler feed significantly reduces the negative effects of OTA and DON on performance parameters, renal and hepatic lesions and improves the natural humoral immunity and cellular defense. (Banat University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Timisoara, Romania)
- Mycofix® counteracts the harmful impact caused by multiple mycotoxin contamination on the performance of lactating cows by increasing milk production and quality and enhancing the rumen function. (University of Newcastle, UK)
- Inclusion of Mycofix® to rations which contained mycotoxin contaminated ingredients, showed significant improvement in the health, reproductive and performance parameters of ruminants in the trial farm. It also eliminated incidences of mastitis, high somatic cell counts, low feed intake, poor fertility rate and expensive treatment costs. (Côte d‘Armor, France)
- The addition of Mycofix® to mash concentrates for ruminants exposed to mycotoxins in their pasture such as ryegrass endophyte toxins (ergovaline and lolitrem B) was evaluated. Mycofix® lead to higher weight gain, increased lamb survival, possibly alleviates impaired cognitive function and lowers respiration rate. (Victoria, Australia)
- Mycofix® ensures performance in the presence of an endotoxin challenge by improving final weight, daily weight gain and feed conversion. In addition diarrhea incidences were reduced. (Center of Applied Animal Nutrition, Austria)
